Frequently asked questions

Do I need a Membership?

To receive all the perks? Yes.

To book a court independently, play in our box league, NY squash league, and receive discounted pricing on clinics, challenge groups, Individual Training Program, lessons, and more, you need to be a member. You also receive access to special events, our PSA partnering pros, not to mention our amazing community.

Non-members can play in our Round Robin, take lessons, and join clinics for an additional cost

Does my child need an Open Squash membership to participate in classes?

Yes, Juniors will need a $129/month Junior membership that gives them access to court bookings and clinics to sign up for most Junior Academy programming. You can sign up for a Junior membership via Clublocker. Scholarships and income-based discounts are available. Learn more about if you qualify and how to apply.

Didn’t you say something about sliding scale membership discounts?

We did! We offer individual and family discounted rates on all three membership tiers. You can find more about that HERE.

Is my child the right age for Junior Academy?

Junior Academy classes are mixed age for kids 5 to 18 years old, and are sorted by skill level. The only exceptions are classes for kids under 6 and teen-only classes for younger or older beginners on the Green Team (which is generally 0-2 years of experience). See guidelines here.

What is your mission?

Squash for all! We want to democratize squash and open up this incredible sport to a broader audience. We are New York’s first and only public, non-profit, dedicated squash facility specifically designed to help make the sport more visible, vital, accessible, and affordable. We offer sliding scale membership discounts and junior scholarships, in addition to our three membership tiers in order to reach a more diverse socioeconomic audience.

What equipment will my child need?

We have rackets and eyewear but if you have your own equipment, you are more than welcome to bring your own. We only require non-marking shoes and athletic clothes that are comfortable to move around in.

How do I book a court?

We use US Squash’s automated online booking system, Club Locker.  Members are welcome to log on and book their own court time.

Courts open up for booking at 8am the week prior. Club Locker allows no more than 3 bookings for every 7 days with only one booking a day, up to one week in advance.

What if I’m not a member? Can I book a court?

For non-members, just shoot us an email to info@opensquash.org with the date and time you would like to play, and we will handle booking from there. In lieu of court fees, non-members are charged a $50 Day Pass fee for each booking.

Can I bring in a guest as a member?

You bet! Members may bring in 1 complimentary guest per quarter (Q1: Jan, Feb, March, Q2: April, May, June, etc.). After that, guests are $35 and are automatically charged to the member’s account (so get your friend’s venmo now 😉)

What if I can’t make it to my reservation?

If you need to cancel your reservation, you can do so through Club Locker or send an email to info@opensquash.org.  Cancellations are free until 12 hours before the reservation, after which you will be charged a court fee for the cancellation.

Do you offer lessons?

We do! Our coaching staff is available to teach Private and Semi-Private lessons to members and non-members alike. Got a court in your building? We’ll send a coach over to teach you to play!
